Merritt "Pete" Tetreault, founder of the company, started the firm to address the need for a machine that would operate better, have more safety features, and last longer than other granulators on the market. Granutec's granulators change residual plastics, waste material, and reject goods into high quality granules suitable for inplant recycling. They are reported to be among the most durable and dependable granulators in the industry.

Serving the industry for 20 years, the company is about to open a 10,000 square foot sheet metal and fabrication facility, bringing the overall size of the plant to 35,000 square feet. The firm's headquarters in East Douglas houses the engineering, manufacturing, sales, accounting, purchasing, and service departments. Their outside sales force is comprised of a network of 25 agencies, serving the United States, Canadian and Mexican markets.
